Morikawa finishes tied for fifth, and Homa is 42nd at St. Jude Championship. Cal alums Collin Morikawa and Max Homa easily advanced to the second round of the FedEx Cup playoffs,

with Morikawa finishing tied for fifth on Sunday at St. Jude Championships at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee. Homa finished tied for 42nd,

but both will play next week at the BMW Championships in Wilmington, Delaware, the second stop in a three-week playoff.

The top 30 in the FedEx Cup standings after the BMW event qualify for the Tour Championship, a no-cut event in Atlanta on August 25-28,

with the winner taking home the $18 million FedEx Cup prize. The third former Cal golfer to play at St. Jude, 40-year-old James Hahn,

failed to advance. He is projected to finish outside the top 70 that will need to be played next week. Hahn will finish 107th in the FedEx Cup standings,

an improvement from 117th a week ago, but he's far from moving up. Morikawa, a 25-year-old two-time major winner who is ranked No. 8 in the world,

shot his fourth straight round in the 60s, went bogey-free until the 18th hole, and finished with a 3-under 67. He had four under par in the first 17 holes birdies.
