Rory McIlroy hits the unknown, still 4 under at the BMW PGA Championship Even the FedExCup champion gets stumped by golf now and then.

Rory McIlroy got off to a strong start on Thursday at the BMW PGA Championship on the DP World Tour, going 2-under through seven holes despite rainy conditions.

Then came the par-4 eighth. McIlroy's 1-putt was buried in a wet, unforgiving Wentworth, so the four-time major champion went all out.

The ball jumped a foot, landed even harder, and fell again into the tender loving arms of that eerily long English grass, seemingly hiding from the gloomy day.
