Don't blame Henrik Stenson for being stripped of the captain's chair after signing with LIV Golf, writes Alex Miceli, blame those who gave him the job in the first place.
When the DP World Tour announced on Wednesday that they were removing Ryder Cup captain Henrik Stenson, it was understandable.
Stenson signed the contract, and according to anyone familiar with the document, it did not include a LIV Golf membership as acceptable.
In fact, before Stenson was announced as a candidate on March 15, members of the European Ryder Cup selection committee
which included the last three European Ryder Cup captains, Padraig Harrington, Thomas Bjorn and Darren Clarke, European Tour Group Chief Executive Keith Pelley
Pelley and DP World Committee Chairman Tour Tournament Committee David Howell - They were adamant about LIV.
Stenson even addressed it in his press conference on Marco Simone,
where he announced him as captain.
"Yes, there is too much speculation back and forth, and like I said, I'm fully committed to the captaincy
and the Ryder Cup Europe and the job that we have," Stenson said when asked specifically about joining LIV in the future.
